A bit of history
Torrance sits inside the South Bay corridor that became Southern California's aerospace and defense engine after World War II, alongside El Segundo, Hawthorne, and Redondo Beach, once home to Northrop, Hughes Aircraft, The Aerospace Corporation, and McDonnell Douglas. Toyota ran its U.S. headquarters out of Torrance for decades before relocating to Texas in 2017. The aerospace DNA never left, which is why hypersonics and defense-tech startups keep landing here today.
