Westlake Village
A bit of history
The American-Hawaiian Steamship Company bought the 12,000-acre ranch here for $32 million in 1963 and, partnering with Prudential Insurance, commissioned architecture firm A.C. Martin and Associates to design a master-planned community built around a man-made lake. The development sits on the Los Angeles-Ventura county line, and only the 3,456-acre Los Angeles County side incorporated as the City of Westlake Village in 1981, with more than 80% of voters approving; the Ventura County portion was annexed into neighboring Thousand Oaks instead.
