A bit of history

Isaac Lankershim's Lankershim Ranch Land and Water Company founded a farming town called Toluca here in 1887, on land his family had bought as wheat farmland decades earlier. The town was renamed Lankershim in 1896 after the family, then renamed again to North Hollywood in 1927 to trade on its more famous neighbor. Today the neighborhood's identity runs through its NoHo Arts District, home to the historic El Portal Theatre, working sound studios, and small playhouses.
