A bit of history

Aviation took root here in 1910, when Wilbur Wright's biplane demo at Dominguez Hills sparked a rush of aircraft builders to the region's clear, flyable skies. Donald Douglas set up shop in 1920, renting space in an old movie studio in Santa Monica, before Douglas Aircraft grew into one of the city's largest employers. A few miles away, North American Aviation's Inglewood plant turned out thousands of P-51 Mustangs during World War II. Los Angeles has been building aircraft and entertainment side by side for over a century.
