Commercial fishing still relies on legacy tools and practices largely unchanged for a century, causing two-thirds of harvested fish to never reach a plate, with stress during harvest degrading fish quality.

Shinkei builds robotics, led by its Poseidon system, that combine computer vision with the traditional Japanese ike jime technique to humanely harvest fish at scale in real time aboard fishing vessels, and it launched Seremoni as a consumer-facing arm to distribute the resulting fish.

The company states Poseidon extends shelf life 3x, preserves peak flavor, and eliminates the stress response that it says degrades 70% of fish quality, while framing itself as full-stack American infrastructure from American fishermen and factories to distribution.

Shinkei Systems, founded by Saif Khawaja and based in El Segundo, raised a $22 million Series A co-led by Peter Thiel's Founders Fund, which TechCrunch called an 'outlier bet on humanely killed fish.'
