Newlight | AirCarbon - a natural, carbon-negative, regenerative, ocean-degradable material that can replace plastic. Harnessing the technology in nature to improve the world.
Large volumes of greenhouse gas flow into the atmosphere from sources like landfills, power plants, and livestock, driving plastic pollution and climate change.
Newlight uses microorganisms found in nature to convert air and greenhouse gas (CO2e) into a meltable, moldable biomaterial called Aircarbon that can be made into products.
Aircarbon is made from greenhouse gas with no oil or food crops, is FDA approved, home compostable, carbon-negative (certified under ISO 14046-3 and PAS 2050:2011), and high-strength in both hot and cold conditions.
Co-founded and led by CEO Mark Herrema, whose AirCarbon plastic-alternative material is backed in part by Oxy Low Carbon Ventures, the venture arm of oil company Occidental Petroleum.
