Existing respiratory monitoring has lag time in detecting dangerous breathing events, a growing risk given more outpatient procedures using sedation, heavy post-operative opioid use, and an aging population with conditions like obesity and cardiovascular disease.
Makani Science built a wearable patch sensor that continuously and noninvasively monitors respiratory rate, tidal volume, and minute ventilation, streaming real-time breathing waveforms to a mobile device so clinicians can detect and manage respiratory events with no lag time.
